Beginner students may struggle to recognize some of the conjunct consonants or "ligatures" as well as a couple of individual letters found in the older Devanāgarī font used in Speijer‘s Sanskrit Syntax. Before using this book, students are encouraged to study this table, which includes most of the more difficult characters together with their romanized transcription and their form in two modern fonts.
